Pitch Your Research - Oral Competition

Protein Australia's "Pitch Your Research” - oral presentation competition is an opportunity for biotechnology postgraduate students and early career researchers to present their research at Protein Australia 2023 conference with a clear, concise and effective oral presentation.  

Pitch your research oral competition is proudly sponsored by Capella Science. The winning research presentation will be awarded $500.

Judging criteria

The Presentations will be judged in four categories

  • Content: Did the presentation clearly describe the research impact, results of the research and conclusions?
  • Organisation: Did the presentation follow a clear and logical sequence? Was the presentation within time limit?
  • Engagement: Did the presenter engage with the audience leading to spontaneous questions from the audience?
  • Discussion: How confidently did the speaker answer the audience questions? Did the presenter demonstrate subject knowledge in the answers.

Rules

  • Not more than five PowerPoint slides (including title slide)
  • No animation, sound or video files permitted
  • Presentations are limited to 10 minutes
  • Presentation must be delivered in English
  • Presentation will be followed by 2 minutes Q&A
  • The decision of the adjudicating panel is final

Eligibility

  • Postgraduate students and early career researchers are eligible to participate
  • Participants must register for the conference to be eligible

  • Notification of acceptance 5 June 2023
  • Early bird registration ends 26 May 2023

Pitch Your Research - Poster Competition

Protein Australia's "Pitch Your Research” - poster competition is an opportunity for biotechnology postgraduate students to display their research with a clear, concise, and effective written presentation. We strongly encourage all attendees to present their research in the poster sessions to gain exposure to researchers and leaders from academia, industry and government sectors. Selected posters will be eligible to present their work in a minute talk before the poster session. Please select the option when submitting your abstract, if you wish to be considered.

Poster Board Specifications

  • The poster board surface area is 1.8 m high x 0.9 m wide. You may use as much or as little of the board space as you like, however the suggested poster size is 1.2 m high x 0.8 m wide
  • We don’t assign numbers or specific locations. When you arrive at the registration desk, our staff will help you find an available board (first come, first served)
  • Presentation must be delivered in English
  • Print and bring your poster with you, we provide push pins
  • Place a copy of the abstract, in large type, in the upper left-hand corner of the poster board. Ensure illustrations including charts and graphs can be read from a distance of 1.5 m or more. All text should be printed in a font large enough to be read comfortably from a distance of 1.5 m
  • Set up times: 9am - 1pm on Sunday 2 July 2023
  • Tear down: You’ll have until 3:00 PM on Tuesday 4 July to take your poster down
  • Your poster will be on display for the entirity of the conference
  • Formal viewing period is from 5 - 7pm, Monday 3 July
  • The decision of the adjudicating panel is final

  • Abstract should be limited to 150 words and submitted as an acrobat reader (pdf) version electronically via the button below. Please note that one figure can be provided in the PDF file
